Sectional and monolithic entry door construction

Emtek builds entry door hardware two structural ways: sectional, where the handle, rose, and outer plate stack together as separate pieces during install, and monolithic, where the exterior trim is cast as one uninterrupted plate. Both cover the same job, an exterior handle paired with an interior lever or knob through a shared lock body, but they behave differently once installed and again years later if anything needs attention.

Why the construction choice matters

Urban Modern and San Carlos here use the sectional approach, which lets one worn component get serviced without pulling the whole trim off the door. Tuscany's monolithic option and the stainless Davos set trade that convenience for a cleaner, uninterrupted line running the height of the plate, at the cost of removing everything at once if a repair is ever needed.

Tubular fits new construction faster

A tubular lock goes in through two bores drilled straight through the door face, quicker to fit during new construction than a mortise lock, which needs a pocket routed into the door's edge before the mechanism even goes in. Transitional Heritage offers both mechanisms in this line, tubular for a standard build and mortise where a door needs the extra strength that routed pocket provides. Most new doors ship pre-bored for tubular hardware, so checking the door's actual prep saves a return.

Handedness and interior trim

Every set here pairs its exterior handle with a matching interior lever or knob cut from the same design, so the look carries consistently from outside to in. Left-hand and right-hand versions follow the door's swing, and confirming that against the actual hinge side avoids ordering the mirror image by mistake.
