Durham Bronze Cabinet Hardware

Durham bronze cabinet hardware describes color, not metal

Durham bronze cabinet hardware names a surface tone, not what the underlying piece is made from. Neither the New Traditional pull nor its matching knob is actually bronze; both start as forged and cast iron from Richelieu, plated afterward in this particular color. The bronze reference points strictly at the finish layer on top, similar to how a paint chip names a color without saying anything about the wall material behind it.

One piece forged, the other cast

Forging leaves a pull with faint surface irregularities, a hammer mark here, an uneven edge there, that read as handmade rather than machine-uniform. Casting the knob instead produces a smoother, more repeatable result piece after piece. Nothing about combining a forged pull with a cast knob looks wrong in a finished kitchen; the color unifies them regardless of how metal became shape in each case. Buyers who notice the difference tend to appreciate it rather than mind it, since some texture drift is exactly what a forged piece promises over a factory-smooth casting.

Confirming the right pull length

The New Traditional pull comes in three separate lengths. Measure the existing spacing on any door being replaced before ordering, rather than guessing which length was originally installed there. The knob mounts on a single screw and works wherever a pull's two-hole spacing wouldn't, tight upper cabinets, narrow drawer fronts, a corner unit with limited clearance around the door swing.

Comparing durham bronze to darker options

Durham bronze runs darker and flatter than standard bronze, edging close to black's depth without quite losing every trace of warmth true black carries. Oak or walnut cabinetry, anything showing real grain, carries that depth naturally; a flat painted door pushes the contrast harder and can look severe by comparison.
