Faux iron cabinet hardware pulls its texture and dark matte color from wrought iron without using the metal itself. Richelieu casts nearly everything here in Zamak, a zinc alloy, keeping pieces lighter and less rust-prone than true iron while holding onto a rough, hand-forged surface. The idea borrows from centuries-old blacksmith work, hammered surfaces and heavy scrollwork, recreated through a modern casting process that trims both cost and weight.
Chaillot and Clignancourt, two takes on one texture
Both lines carry cast scrollwork and raised surface detail meant to mimic hand-worked iron instead of a smooth cast finish. Each offers its own knob paired with its own pull, so a kitchen outfitted entirely from one line keeps a single pattern throughout rather than mixing two closely related designs. Chaillot's casting runs slightly more ornate than Clignancourt's, extra surface detail worked into the metal, an easy way to spot which is which once both are installed.
Brass interrupts an otherwise dark lineup
A few pieces, the Povera pull among them along with a couple of solid brass options, use brass instead of Zamak, adding a warm accent inside an otherwise dark, iron-toned kitchen. Farmhouse and old-world spaces already pairing iron light fixtures with brass plumbing take naturally to mixing a brass knob against faux iron pulls. Solid brass ages differently than plated brass across a decade of daily handling, worth knowing before combining the two on one door.
Lighter and drier than the real thing
Actual wrought iron hardware weighs more and corrodes quicker near water; faux iron delivers the same rustic read without either drawback. Kitchens leaning on this look typically pair it with dark-stained or reclaimed wood rather than a painted surface, since the texture competes with a smooth painted finish more than it complements one. For a darker, more uniform look without the scrollwork, see black.
