Satin chrome cabinet hardware, the softer edge of the chrome family
Satin chrome cabinet hardware starts with the same base metal as polished chrome, then finishes it with a light brushed texture that cuts the shine and softens how visible fingerprints become. Berenson's Advantage line makes up the bulk of this finish, covering wire pulls, round knobs, and square knobs in both contemporary and traditional shapes, with a handful of additional pieces from Richelieu and Century Hardware filling out the rest.
Contemporary and traditional shapes, same finish
Satin chrome isn't tied to a single design language. The Advantage collection covers plain wire pulls suited to a contemporary kitchen right alongside the Plymouth round knob's more traditional profile, and Century Hardware's Builder's Choice D-pull adds a third, simpler shape into the mix. Because the brushed texture reads the same across all three, a kitchen can mix pull and knob shapes without the metal tone shifting from one piece to the next.
Sizes and materials to check
Wire pulls span 3" to 4" between mounting screws, sized for standard drawer fronts rather than wide doors. Most of the collection is steel or zinc rather than solid brass, and cast zinc and pressed steel both take a brushed finish more evenly than softer metals, keeping the satin texture consistent piece by piece. Richelieu's zamak pull is the one material worth double-checking for tone before it lands in the same order as the rest.
The brushed texture on satin chrome earns its keep day to day: it breaks up light the way polished chrome never does, so fingerprints and light water spots don't catch the eye the way they would on a glossy surface. A soft cloth, just barely dampened, is enough for regular care. Skip steel wool or other abrasive pads, which wear a bright streak into the brushed surface and leave a patch that never blends back in.
Comparing chrome tones
For the brighter, mirror-polished version of this same metal, see chrome. If a warmer tone with the same brushed texture sounds better, put nickel next to it before deciding.
