Weathered Copper Cabinet Hardware

Weathered copper cabinet hardware with a matte, aged surface

Weathered copper cabinet hardware trades copper's usual bright shine for a matte, textured surface built to look like it's already logged years of kitchen use. Berenson casts most of the finish onto its Folklore and American Classics lines, zinc construction, traditional tag. Folklore covers the widest range: a knob, a cup pull, several straight pulls, and an appliance-length pull. American Classics sticks to two knob shapes only, round and oval, for a plainer look. Century Hardware adds one more ornate knob in the same tone for buyers mixing vendors.

What sets the weathered look apart from polished copper

Polished copper throws back light and shows fingerprints almost right away. Weathered copper skips that problem: its rough surface starts out looking used, so daily hands barely register against it over time. Color runs darker and more brown here than on a bright copper pan, nearer to old iron than to anything shiny. Smudges also stay hidden more easily on this rough texture than on a glossy, plated surface getting touched constantly.

Rooms it suits, and sizing across the Folklore line

Traditional and farmhouse kitchens make the best home for this finish, particularly next to other aged metals or natural stone counters. Set against a bright, all-white contemporary kitchen, the coloring has nothing to relate to and can read as accidental instead of chosen on purpose. Every Folklore piece, appliance pulls included, comes from one zinc build and one finish, so a pull length can change without switching materials partway through a job. Measure the current screw spacing on whatever's being replaced, since a new length seldom matches an old hole pattern by chance.
