Bathroom - Grab Bars

Grab bars as decorative hardware, not just a safety fixture

Grab bars belong in a cabinet hardware catalog because most come finished to match whatever towel bar or faucet trim already hangs nearby, not purely because they serve a mobility function. Alno's Embassy bar and Smedbo's House and Villa bars are each a single fixed length in one finish, brass or chrome, bolted to studs behind the wall so it blends visually with whatever else is installed nearby rather than looking bolted on as an afterthought. Smedbo's Living line takes a different approach entirely, building out a connected accessory system rather than offering one bar alone.

One bar vs. a connected set

A fixed bar, like Embassy or Villa, does one job: a solid handhold anchored where it's mounted on the wall. Living builds outward from that idea, adding a basket, a hook, and an extra holder for toilet paper, pieces that clip directly onto the bar instead of each needing its own separate wall anchor, so the bar becomes the anchor point for several smaller fittings at once. Buying into a Living setup means planning which of those attachments a shower or a tub wall actually needs, a different decision than simply picking one bar's length and finish.

Finish and material differences

Alno's Embassy bar runs solid brass, warmer and more traditional than Smedbo's cooler stainless and chrome choices. Living defaults to chromed stainless, with a darker finish available for a bathroom that already runs black fixtures elsewhere. Villa offers both brass and chrome, whichever tone the surrounding room leans toward already.

Before ordering any grab bar

Every bar in this group needs solid framing behind the drywall or tile, since nothing here holds real weight bolted into hollow wall on its own; confirm blocking placement first. Picking one fixed bar is the more straightforward of the two paths here; a full Living setup takes more planning, since each attachment ships as a separate line item.
