Cabinet knobs across the full design range
Cabinet knobs are single-screw hardware mounted to a cabinet door or smaller drawer face. The one-screw fixing keeps them visually compact and lets them rotate slightly during install. That's why knobs are usually mounted vertically on doors and horizontally on drawer fronts. The catalog runs from plain round knobs the size of a dime to figurative animal castings and glass pieces the size of a golf ball, with every style and material in between.
Where knobs go vs. where pulls go
The traditional rule puts knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. The theory: doors swing, drawers slide, and the leverage of a two-screw pull is wasted on a door that doesn't need it. The rule still works as a default for kitchens. Plenty of kitchens reverse it (pulls on doors, T-knobs on drawers) for visual consistency. Mixed-hardware kitchens, such as knobs on uppers and pulls on bases, read traditional and ground a Shaker or transitional design without overcomplicating the finish decision.
What changes between knob shapes
Round and square knobs are the workhorses; animal knobs and figurative castings turn the knob into the room's punctuation. Surface-decorated knobs (etched, hammered, hand-painted) carry their visual weight on the top face and read from across a kitchen. Glass knobs let cabinet color show through and shift their look depending on what's behind them. Each variant matches certain rooms more than others; the choice usually comes down to whether the knob should disappear or hold attention.
Working knobs with the rest of the hardware
Pick the knob and pull family at the same time so the finish reads identical and the proportions look intentional. Sister-pair within one brand line where possible. Many manufacturers (Atlas, Top Knobs, Jeffrey Alexander) build knob-and-pull pairs explicitly designed to install together. For brand-level options, see Top Knobs.
