Stainless steel vs. cast door handles

These door handles split along a material line as much as a style one. Cast pieces such as Turino, Triton, and the Verve knob take their finish plated onto a zinc or brass base underneath, while a separate stainless group, a round knob, an octagon knob, plus the Stuttgart and Poseidon levers cut in stainless, is milled from solid metal with nothing plated over it at all.

Why solid stainless holds up differently

A plated surface can thin out at points of heavy contact after enough daily handling, exposing the metal underneath at a lever's tip or a knob's high spot. Solid stainless carries no such risk, since what's visible on day one is the same material straight through the piece; a scratch just dulls the shine rather than revealing something underneath it. That makes it a fitting pick for a door handled constantly, say a mudroom entry near a garage or a back hallway.

Where the plated finishes still win out

Cast pieces come in a broader spread of finish tones than stainless allows, so a house already leaning warm elsewhere in its cabinet hardware usually sticks with the plated group instead of switching mid-project for the sake of one door. Turino and Triton's rounder cast profiles also read softer than the flatter, more industrial stainless shapes nearby.

Combining both groups in one house

Putting a stainless knob on a laundry or mudroom door while keeping cast levers everywhere else isolates the highest-wear opening without committing the entire house to one material. Confirm bore size and backset line up between the two groups first, since a stainless piece and a cast piece pulled from the same collection share identical specs even when the metal itself differs from one to the other.
