Casement window hardware splits into three separate jobs

Casement window hardware here covers three pieces built for a hinged, outward-swinging sash: a crank that opens and closes it, a latch that seals it shut, and an adjuster that holds it partway open against a breeze. None of these three do each other's job, so a full casement setup usually needs all three rather than any single piece standing in for the rest.

What actually turns inside a crank

Cranking the handle spins a small gear train inside the housing, and that gear pushes an arm connected to the sash outward or pulls it back in, all without a hand ever touching the glass directly. A snap-on cover finishes the visible housing once the mechanism is mounted, hiding the gearing and leaving only the handle exposed against the frame.

Sealing shut versus holding partway

A latch draws the sash flush against the frame and locks it there, cutting drafts the way any closed window lock would. An adjuster does the opposite: instead of sealing the window, it fixes the sash at a chosen angle so wind can't swing it further open or slam it shut on its own. A crank alone can't hold a window at an in-between position the way an adjuster can.

Matching a replacement by model, not by eye

Arm length and housing shape vary across this lineup even though every unit performs the identical basic function, so a worn crank should be replaced by matching its printed model number rather than picking whichever one looks closest by size. A gear that's begun to strip usually shows up first as a crank that spins loosely without moving the sash at all, a clear sign to order a full replacement rather than trying to lubricate around the problem. Removing the old cover first exposes the mounting screws underneath, which makes swapping the whole unit a reasonably quick job once a matching replacement is confirmed and in hand.
